[I am following Anne Brooke‘s 2021 #52tagshannemade slow stitch challenge to make a little tag every week of the year – see them all here!] I wasn’t sure I’d pop out a tag last week due to being quite busy prepping for class, but I needed to take a moment for myself for all sorts of reasons, not the least of which was learning my friend is diagnosed with cancer (thankfully, the prognosis appears good at this time). I’ve been thinking about her and her family a lot since, and of our friendship (since high school!), and I knew right away this tag would be in her honor.
I chose about 75 different fabrics and picked a palette that was reminiscent of a floral bouquet, since sending flowers to people in hospitals is common. Of course, Anne and others following her challenge are more “scrappy” and “messy” than I am. I meticulously peeled away all loose threads in the scraps so they are neat and fuzzy like chenille instead of wild and carefree. It was therapeutic and I hope the doctors can “peel” away my friend’s cancer quickly and as easily!
I chose to mash two friendship quotes together: “Good friends are like stars: you don’t always see them, but you know they’re always there,” by author Christy Evans (I do not know her work) and “A friend is worth a thousand stitches,” (I could not find the original author).
And my series so far:
